Drop-off and Pick-up Policy

What You Need To Know

Everyday upon drop-off and pick-up, it is mandatory to sign your child in and out. Your child’s name, time of drop-off and time of pick-up, and your signature must be recorded. Please make sure that your child is welcomed by a teacher before you leave. We also ask that you have your children at the daycare latest by 10:00am. This ensures not only the security of the children but that your child will not miss out on any part of the day. If you are unable to get your child to the daycare before this time, please call and let us know.

Children will only be released to parents or another adult who are on their authorized pick up list. These individuals may be asked to produce photo identification that match the teacher’s list. If your child is going to be picked up by someone not on the alternate pick up list, then it is required that the child’s parents provide the staff with a written and signed note stating who the pick-up will be. It is required that these individuals have a government issued photo identification.

All parents and or alternative adults must inform the teacher and sign out their child/ children before leaving the daycare.

Custody Arrangements

If applicable, children will be released to either parent unless a copy of the current custody agreement is on file with the daycare. We as caregivers are not in the position to enforce custody arrangements that have not been decided upon by the daycare.

Late or Inappropriate Pick-up

The daycare closes at 5:30pm. A late fee will be charged when a child is picked up after this time. A $1 late charge will be issued for each minute after 5:30pm and is payable in cash.

If a family member has not contacted the center by 5:45pm, teachers will do the following:

  • Contact home, parents place of employment, cell phone numbers

  • If no contact has been made within 2 hours of pick up time, the child is considered abandoned and teachers must call the Ministry of Social Services to come and pick up the child

Children will not be driven home by the teachers or sent home in a taxi.

Continued late pick-ups may result in dismissal from the daycare.

Under the child care licensing regulations, if we feel that the person (including yourself) picking up your child appears to be incapable of providing safe care, another person on your list of contacts will be notified to pick up your child. If we are unable to contact you at pick up time, and have not heard from you, we would call next person on your contact list to pick up your child. If no one can be contacted to pick up your child, we are required to call the ministry of children and families.

If the person is driving a vehicle and the staff person has a reason to believe the person may be under the influence, the staff person will explain that driving in this circumstance is unsafe and against the law. The staff are obligated to ensure the safety and well being of the children and adults. The child will remain under the supervision of the staff until the parent/guardian, or alternate emergency pickup person arrives. The staff will immediately notify the police and call the ministry of children and families if the impaired person refuses to wait or behaves in any unsafe manner. Staff will be encouraged to note the vehicle license plate number and to provide the police with as much information as possible about the impaired person.
